Championing Slingshot Marksmanship
The National Slingshot League (NSL) is dedicated to fostering the growth and recognition of slingshot marksmanship across the United States. As a nonprofit organization, we are committed to organizing competitions, providing educational resources, and advocating for the sport’s inclusion and respectability. Established in December 2024, the NSL emerged from a shared vision to support tournament directors and expand the sport’s reach. Our mission is to nurture a vibrant community of enthusiasts, offering programs like the innovative lanyard system to inspire both newcomers and seasoned competitors.
Scoring Process Overview
Step 1
The scoring process for our events and tournaments is designed to ensure fairness and transparency. Scores are submitted by Tournament Directors via email to the National Slingshot League (NSL) and securely stored for processing.
Step 2
Each tournament may have unique scoring methods, but all adhere to NSL guidelines. We calculate national rankings through two primary methods: National Event Ranking and National Tournament Ranking.
Step 3
For open invitation events following NSL rules, the top 5 scores or top 5% (whichever is greater) are considered. These scores are averaged and converted into points to determine rankings.
Understanding the National Ranking System
Our national ranking system is designed to fairly evaluate and celebrate the skills of slingshot competitors nationwide.
Event Scoring
Scores from various tournaments are submitted by directors and averaged to determine event rankings, ensuring consistency and fairness.
Tournament Rankings
National Tournament rankings are calculated by considering the top performances from each event, highlighting the best in the sport.
National Championship
The National Championship serves as the ultimate showdown, where top competitors vie for the title based on their cumulative scores throughout the year.
How does the ranking system work?
- To receive ranking points, a participant must be a member of the National Slingshot League(NSL) and compete as a Pro.
- Anyone may compete in the tournaments and even win them or individual events, but only NSL members are eligible for national ranking points.
- Each event is weighted equally as a percentage of the potential total points scored.
- A participant’s rank in each event is calculated as (points scored/total points available) x 100.
- All NSL members who compete in the Professional Division will be ranked, regardless of placement.
- If a participant places in multiple events within a single tournament, or places in the same event across multiple tournaments, their score for the events placed in is multiplied by 1.1.
- The final rankings are the cumulative average of event score rankings across all tournaments within a tournament season. For example, if a member scores a ranking value 50 in a tournament and 100 in another tournament, their rank is (50+100)/2, which is 75. If they then score 100 in their third tournament, their rank is (50+100+100)/3 or 83.33″
